USA falls in the Ivan Hlinka opener

The United States Under-18 select team fell to Finland 6-3 Monday morning in the opening game for both teams at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament held in Piestany, Slovakia.

South Portland native Jon Gillies got the start in net for the Americans. He made 33 saves on 38 shots. Finland tallied an empty net goal.

Jordan Masters (Muskegon Lumberjacks, USHL) had a goal and an assist, Luke Johnson (Central (N.D.) High School), and Nicholas Schilkey (Honeybaked Midgets each had a goal for the Americans.

Team USA will return to action Tuesday at 8 a.m. eastern as they face Russia.
