Coyotes make first cuts

The Coyotes reduced the number of players in training camp today.

Forwards Phil Lane (Brampton), Lucas Lessio (Oshawa) and defensemen Harrison Ruopp (Prince Albert) and Justin Weller (Red Deer) has been returned to their respective junior clubs.

Last Wednesday, Lessio scored against the Los Angeles Kings as the Coyotes rallied for an 8-7 win.

The Coyotes also announced they released defenseman Dylan King, who was on a tryout with the club, leaving 57 players left in camp.

Forward Alexander Bolduc recently had successful surgery on his right shoulder – a chronic problem that has plagued him for the last several years.

Bolduc, who was signed as a free agent this summer after spending the last six years in the Vancouver Canucks system, is expected to miss a minimum two months of action.

When training camp opens next Monday at the Cumberland County Civic Center expected to see several familiar faces on the ice. Forwards Igor Gongalsky and Jimmy Bonneau have been invited to attend camp.

Gongalsky played 54 games last season, scoring four goals, six assists for 10 points. Bonneau played 46 games during the 2008-’09 season, recording six assists.

The Coyotes will play three games in the next two days, starting with Tuesday night when they play the Anaheim Ducks in Southern California. On Wednesday, the Coyotes will play a pair split squad games in Phoenix against the Kings.
