Gormley recalled by Coyotes; Hodgman sent down
- Updated: November 3, 2014
To make room on its 23-man roster, the Coyotes assigned forward Justin Hodgman to Portland.
Gormley, 22, missed the first four games of the regular season due to a lower-body injury but has been a key piece to the Pirates’ turnaround over the last few weeks.
Portland (5-5-0) is on a three-game winning streak and has won four of their last five games.
Gormley has a goal and two assists in six games with Portland.
The 6-foot-2, 196-pound defenseman appeared in 54 games for the Pirates last season, scoring seven goals, 29 assists for 36 points.
Hodgman, 26, is returning to Portland after playing four games with the Coyotes where he scored his first career NHL goal in his NHL debut on Oct. 25 against Florida.
The 6-foot-1, 203-pound center played three games with the Pirates, going scoreless with a minus-2 rating.
Hodgman played last season in Russia with Magnitogorsk Metallurg and Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo of the KHL, where he scored 11 goals, 15 assists for 26 points in 49 games.
The Pirates are on the road Friday in Providence, RI where they’ll face the Providence Bruins. They’ll return to the Cross Insurance Arena Saturday to face off against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
