Maine setting up a recruiting ground in the Mid-Atlantic

With the news of Joe Widmar decommitting from the University of Maine last week, the coaching staff has quickly found a replacement. On Sunday, the university received a verbal commitment from Danny Perez who is playing with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights of the Eastern Hockey League.

The 20-year old forward from Bloomfield, N.J. has 15 goals and eight assists in 18 games this season.

We will have more on Perez later in the week.

Perez, is the latest player Red Gendron has recruited out of the New Jersey and the Pennsylvania area. He joins A.J. Drobot ( Churchville, Pa./New Jersey Rockets EHL), Simon Butala (Downingtown, Pa./New Jersey Rockets EHL) and Konstantin Chernyuk (St. Petersburg, Russia/Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 18U, AYHL). It seems like the coaching staff is trying to set up a base in the region.

Speaking of Drobot and Butala were held pointless this weekend including the two games against Perez’s Knights. On Saturday, the Knights won 7-3 and lost Sunday 7-2 where Perez didn’t score any points.

As for Chernyuk he had a goal and an assist on Sunday in the 10-0 victory over the Valley Forge Minutemen.

Here’s a look of all the recruits.
